The purpose of NEXUS is to envelop students with deeply held beliefs and life skills while preparing them for the larger world. NEXUS means connection. We have designed this program to help you connect with God, yourself, others, and the world God made and loves. This program is designed to be a year where faith and action intersect. |

What is the structure?
College level courses
You will take several college level courses along with other students in the College. These include Old and New Testament Survey, Personal Discipleship, Apologetics (which is how to defend your faith), Theology of Worship, Theology II, and Lectures in Practical Theology (a course that features a different speaker each week). In addition to these courses, you will participate in daily chapels and our weekly evening chapel, which features interesting guest speakers. These are life-changing events.
NEXUS Workshop
Each semester you will participate in the NEXUS Workshop course specially designed for NEXUS students. This workshop is comprised of both teaching by various instructors as well as hands-on project-driven experience designed to develop spiritual, personal, relational, and world awareness.
NEXUS Encounters
Each semester you will also participate in the NEXUS Encounters with an emphasis in spiritual formation. In NEXUS Encounters you will participate in a plethora of activities that encompass mind, body and spirit; this includes a “silent retreat,” physical challenges, mentorship, as well as integration of an assortment of disciplines into your daily life. We will work on horizontal relationships with friends and mentors; we will work on inward disciplines such as meditation, prayer fasting, study; we will work on outward disciplines such as simplicity, solitude, submission, and service; and corporate disciplines such as confession, worship, guidance, and celebration.
NEXUS Ministry Experience
During the year, we will participate in a variety of practical ministry opportunities. In addition, the Summer Semester has two offerings.
- Missions Option This option includes training sessions during the spring semester and 3 weeks (usually in May) on an international mission field with an opportunity to experience hands-on, practical ministry under a qualified Supervising Mentor and/or Faculty Advisor. You will learn to understand the dynamics of team ministry, value serving God and other people, communicate significant life lessons gained during the internship experience, appreciate how God has shaped your life and leadership potential through providential tests of character, and integrate newly discovered competencies into the practice of daily ministry. This option has a minimum class size requirement. In the event of insufficient class size, a comparable experience will be arranged for you with a partner agency.
- Camp Option This option gives you an opportunity to serve at beautiful Keats Camp, from May through August at Keats Camp on Keats Island, on B.C.’s Sunshine Coast. CFN is working in partnership with Keats Camp, a CBWC (Canadian Baptists of Western Canada) summer camp for children and youth with action-packed programs designed to foster a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
